My country is destroyed

Dear followers, I’m from Ecuador, and we just have had on Saturday a major earthquake that measured 7,9.
The coast is the most affected region of my country, we are not completely ready for situations like this, is hard to see how many people have died and so many are trapped and there are almost 2000 people injured.
It’s difficult to find a way to keep working normally in the cities that haven’t been that affected, so that’s why and if you really can, try to go to Ecuador’s embassy in your country and ask how can you help, we need water, food and medicine as priority.

Thank you so much.

I’ll return writing probably in a week, I’m trying to help with what I can.

Hey…

So my current situation is I’ve been sleeping on an air mattress for about a year and a half? two years almost? and its gotten to the point where it hardly holds air anymore and now it’s started to grow mold…
I really don’t like asking for hand outs or donations but with my current commission queue I can’t really afford to take on more work. And its gotten to the point where I just don’t want to sleep or get into bed any more.

The total cost for everything I’m looking at is
Mattress – $149.99 +$50(for shipping)
Bed frame – $161

Even if you can donate like $2 that helps me out a lot.

My paypal is Phonoscope [at] Hotmail.com

Thank you so much for reading this.

I bought my bed frame and  I almost have enough money for my mattress.
I’ve opened up 6 slots of Traditional commissions which I will mail to you.
Traditional bust commission for one character is $50(including shipping)
Examples:

Drawings are roughly 5″x7″ and done in pencil/pen and shaded with copics.

PSA – PLEASE READ AND SPREAD HE WORD!!!

IF YOU SEE THIS PLANT AT ALL, DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!

Giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) is an invasive herb in the carrot family which was originally brought to North America from Asia and has since become established in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Northwest regions of the United States. Giant hogweed grows along streams and rivers and in fields, forests, yards and roadsides, and a giant hogweed plant can reach 14 feet or more in height with compound leaves up to 5 feet in width.

Giant Hogweed sap contains toxic chemicals known as Furanocoumarins. When these chemicals come into contact with the skin and are exposed to sunlight, they cause a condition called Phytophotodermatitis, a reddening of the skin often followed by severe blistering and burns. These injuries can last for several months, and even after they have subsided the affected areas of skin can remain sensitive to light for years. Furanocoumarins are also carcinogenic and teratogenic, meaning they can cause cancer and birth defects. The sap can also cause temporary (or even permanent) blindness if introduced into the eyes.

If someone comes into physical contact with Giant Hogweed, the following steps should be taken:

  • Wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and COLD water as soon as possible.
  • Keep the exposed area away from sunlight for 48 hours.
  • If Hogweed sap gets into the eyes, rinse them with water and wear sunglasses.
  • See a doctor if any sign of reaction sets in.

If a reaction occurs, the early application of topical steroids may lessen the severity of the reaction and ease the discomfort. The affected area of skin may remain sensitive to sunlight for a few years, so applying sun block and keeping the affected area shielded from the sun whenever possible are sensible precautions

PLEASE, DO NOT JUST READ AND SCROLL! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-SAVING INFORMATION!!!

Extra note: if you live in Oregon, New Jersey, Michigan or New York and see one of these, call your state’s department of agriculture to report it, and trained professionals will come kill it before it can produce seeds and spread.

Frankly, if you see one in general, probably call your DOA and see if there’s a program in place.

Do not burn it, because the smoke will give you the same reaction.

If for some ungodly reason there isn’t a professional who can handle it for you (and please, please use a professional), the DOA of New York has [this guide] for how to deal with it yourself.

OH MY FUCK I HAVE THESE IN MY BACKYARD.

Fucking invasives. Signal boost.

Re-reblogging because I checked Snopes, and not only is this shit true, but the text on this is pretty much the same as it is there! Stay safe, kiddos.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, these are currently the states and provinces in North America where Giant Hogweed is present. Even if your state/province is “clear” that doesn’t mean that it is not there. If you see Giant Hogweed in your yard or anywhere please call your DOA! This stuff is mad deadly!

Also here is a human for size reference. Since they are huge it should be easy enough to see and spot when fully grown.

The burns can also be very bad, far worse than any poison ivy. Just Google ‘Giant Hogweed Burns’ and you’ll see. It can cause bad blistering, red painful rashes, and more. Please be careful of this plant!

They exist in Austria and Germany too. Please be careful!

Also, if you are in the Iowa/Minnesota area (maybe farther, I don’t exactly know), there is a close relative (also invasive) with yellow flowers called wild parsnip.

Flowers (source):

Leaves (source):

It only gets to about half the size of giant hogweed but has all the same toxic effects. The plants in the pictures look small but I’ve seen ones at least 6 feet tall with stems two inches thick.

A lot of pictures available of giant hogweed are fullsized and in bloom. Just because it lacks the flowers doesn’t mean it’s not hogweed! It is dangerous well before that point.

As seen above, another important detail when identifying them can be the stems. They often have this reddish speckling, and are covered in bristly hairs. Like the rest of the plant, you should absolutely not touch them either.

You can see here how the redness is mostly on larger, older portions of the stems.

For those of you in Ontario, here is a link to some more information via Ontario’s Invading Species Awareness Program . It has details on the plant’s growth, removal methods, and groups you can report sightings to.

Unfortunately I lack information on herbicide use, but if the responsibility of removing giant hogweed somehow falls to the owner, please research local laws/restrictions concerning the use of things such as glyphosate (roundup). It is always possible to make things worse instead of better, so exercise caution in all areas, not just the handling/disposal of the plant.

Hey ppl with snow

thagoodthings:

Please remember to let your faucets drip (6-8 drops per min)

Flush you toilets often

Run your showers often

Open up cabinets where your water pipes are to have heat touch them.

So your pipes don’t freeze and potentially bust and ruin your home, possessions and your paychecks.

Please reblog this to send out a message, subfreezing is a very real and very expensive problem. Thanks!

A Christmas “Miracle”

pixelartificer:

We have a problem.

My partner and I are in seasonal work,
which means we’re in the first week of nearly a month without any hours.
We have enough to pay rent and cheap food for the break.

I shit
you not, our gifts to each other consist of a box of Red Lobster biscuit
mix ($2.00) and some new college-ruled notebooks ($0.89 each) from
Walmart.

The gifts aren’t the problem. I fucking love cheesy biscuits, and those notebooks will last us months.

Where’s The Christmas “Miracle”, you ask?

My partner shares a phone plan with his family. His portion was quite cheap, and was within our budget.

That
all changed this morning. After voicing his concern to come off the
phone plan he shares with his family (and split his bill with me, his
significant other), his folks switched accounts without warning, didn’t
shift the primary to anyone else, and saddled us with four months worth
of late fees from a bill his sister accrued (with evidence!) and insists
that she paid. For some reason, the responsibility and threat of
shut-off has fallen on us this holiday season.

We now have $268.01 due in three days, or else our wireless service shuts off.

All of his income, and all of my off-season income, depend on having a working phone and internet.

What can you do to help?

I write in my free time. I also do some pixel art.

I’m willing to put together something, anything in
the next 72 hours (while my internet still exists) so that our savings
for January’s bills don’t disappear into this fuckery.

We can ditch his family later, but right now we need to figure this shit out.

Help me protect some cats!

wyvernsdreams:

wyvernsdreams:

So there are some outdoor cats around my neighborhood.  Some of them are strays, while others are genuinely owned by people living in the neighborhood.

It’s getting to be seriously cold out to the point that we’ve already had our first two frosts, with ice storms already having swept through and breaking trees from just how much ice they left in their wake.

I know my neighbors well enough to know that despite this harsh weather, they still don’t and won’t take their cats indoors.  They never do.  They consider their cats fur as being sufficient enough to fend off the cold and ice, despite the fact it’s clearly not.  And I’m tired of it, because it’s absolutely cruel to these poor feline babies.  There have been times where I’d spend time with some of the neighborhood cats one night, only to wake up the next morning to find at least one of them as a frozen-over corpse – frozen in a position where they had clearly been huddled up trying to desperately stay warm.  I don’t want to wake up to another frozen-solid feline, whether they were a stray or if they had been someone’s pet who was outright being neglected by their family.

The point is that I need help to get some extra cash so I can build a couple of insulated kitty shelters for those outdoor dwellers, so that they don’t have to worry so much about keeping warm.  And hopefully also stay out of car hoods in the process!  I’ve already got one shelter in the works, but I’m looking to make at least two more to spare any territorial nonsense.  We want these kitties to stay warm and alive, not constantly fight each other over the warm safe haven for survival!

The goal is $200.00.   If you think that’s too much, it should be known that it’s about $100.00 to get the supplies to make one proper shelter that will actually guarantee the cats’ safety.  So if you want to help, you can donate by using the button on my blog’s sidebar.

If you don’t donate, please at least spread this!  Thank you!

I really need to get these made as soon as possible, and I need help to do so.

Please keep boosting this. I’m still at $0.00 out of my $200.00 goal for these shelters.
